Baby O looks great, active, but cervix is stubborn

Just back from the perinatologist's office where we had a routine visit to measure baby O and my cervix. The baby looks great (doc actually said "beautiful") - his heart looks great and he's measuring on schedule. He's super active as always so it took a while for them to get some of the measurements because the second she'd get a good shot he'd move. At around 17 weeks the baby had a cyst on his brain which is very common and they said usually goes away within a few weeks 90% of the time and thankfully today (at 22 weeks) they confirmed that it had indeed resolved itself.

Funny thing - when we started the ultrasound with the tech, the baby immediately flashed his privates - the tech quickly moved the image and asked if we wanted to know the baby's sex and we laughed and said we knew our baby was a boy. She said "OK good, because this baby seems to want to make sure we all knew that - he's a flasher!"

Baby O is head-down again which is normal and usually considered good in a normal pregnancy but it's a little nerve racking for me because that means he could resume the head-butting of my cervix when he's in this position and might explain why I kept feeling a pin-prick like sensation on my cervix throughout the last several days.

My cervix is measuring 2.2 cm today, down from 2.4 cm at the last measurement so that's not good but doc said that while it's not a good thing he's not overly worried since the funnel has not returned (that's really good). Although, he'll report that along with the baby's measurements to my OB who will make the final call as to whether any changes need to be made to my current bed rest orders - last time baby was headbutting my cervix the OB put me on stricter bed rest.

We talked about steroid shots and he said that he wants to see how things look in 4 weeks (when I'm 26 weeks) and if it appears that I'm showing signs of PTL (preterm labor) then they'll do the steroid shots but if not then they'll wait a few more weeks because apparently they are most effective when done as close to delivery as possible because if done too early they lose their effect.

In 2 weeks we'll start the contraction monitoring which will be administered by the same home health care company that does my weekly 17P shots (Matria). At my OB appointment next week I'm supposed to remind the doc to prescribe the monitoring so that we can start that on time at 24 weeks.

Lastly, baby O is estimated to weigh approximately 1 lb, 1 oz at this point.

On our way home, we hit the McD's drive-thru and now I feel like a beached whale after scarfing down a fabulous quarter pounder with cheese, fries and a strawberry shake - was so yummy going down but ugh. LOL

Great Dr's visit! Things sound like they are looking good for you! My cervix was first seen at 2cm at 19 weeks and has held steady there for the past 14 weeks so there is hope!

The "flashing" is just a sign of things to come. Raymond would happily run around naked if we let him. And since it is still winter in Finland, that is not a particularly good idea!!! What is it with boys?!?!?! :)
