My little piggy

My folks are in town enjoying spending time with Cooper the pooper. Last night they babysat for him while Bob and I went out for dinner and a movie for a date night to celebrate our upcoming one-year wedding anniversary.

Just before we left, I watched in amazement as Cooper gulped down a 4 oz bottle (he usually stops at 3.5 oz and it is often a battle to get him to drink that much) and once that was done he kept making the sucking motion with his lips so we put another ounce in the bottle and he took that too! We warned my mom that she should prepare for big time spit up or throw up since he's not used to drinking that much. Lo and behold, neither happened! Instead, he napped for 2 hours and woke up hungry so he drank 3 more ounces and went back to sleep and then 2 hours later woke up hungry AGAIN and drank 4 more ounces!! Between 5-10 pm he drank 12 oz!!! After that last feeding he slept for 5 hours - a record for him.

I thought for sure he might sleep through the night with all that formula in his belly but after the 5th hour passed he was up and hungry per the usual 2-3 hour wake/feeding night time cycle.

This morning he's back to his "normal" feeding habits of drinking between 2-3 oz per feeding every 2-3 hours. Today he'll be on 100% of the new formula (Enfamil AR) - last night he was up to 75% of the new and 25% of the old (Similac Alimentum), so today the transition completes. I'm hopeful that we'll see him resume his pigginess really soon because 5 hour sleep stretches would be soooooooo nice! ;)

Today is a cool and dreary day with rain expected later. I'm actually looking forward to the rain - I can't remember the last time it rained here - probably nearly a year ago! We're going to go shopping (need to stock up on the new formula) when Cooper gets up from his morning nap. Unfortunately, we had JUST stocked up on the old formula (Alimentum) just before the doc said to switch him off of it - and that stuff is twice as expensive as most other formulas. We have probably 2 weeks stock of the stuff. I might need to post it on craigslist or something to see if we can sell it and recoup some of the $ spent on it. We'll wait a couple weeks though to be sure Cooper is OK on the new stuff first.

Yea for Cooper! Maybe its Grandma's touch or maybe he is just finally starting to feel better. Hopefully this trend continues and that the new formula works well for him.

Yay for Cooper! Yay for Grandma and Grandpa visiting! And, yay for you and Bob for having a night out together, too! Incidentally, our first anniversary is 10-13! When is yours? Happy first anniversary! So glad all is well and your parents are with you for the week!

He is so sweet. And so smart. When you say "I Love You" it sounds like he is saying it back to you. He looks so much like Julie when she was a baby.....

Julie is an amazing mother. Patient and kind. She has to be exhausted, but she just keeps loving on this little bundle of joy. Hopefully his new formula will make all the difference....Mom
