Good night and good morning, Mister Cooper!

Cooper had a good night and a good morning - NO SCREAMING - YAY! We didn't even have to swaddle him because he was calm from the start - so excited about that!

The acid reflux (GERD) continues to be an issue for him - sometime between 10-60 minutes after he finishes eating he refluxes, gags and foams up. We're not sure if that should still be happening while he's on Zantac so we'll be asking the doctor about that. However, his feedings have been much better since we switched from Nutramigen to Alimentum and we're gradually getting him back up to the amount of formula he should be getting at each feeding. It's a slow process though because he spent a few days not eating well and his tummy isn't used to the higher volume.

We're already poised to switch him to Prevacid which is an acid blocker (shuts down the acid production whereas Zantac is intended to neutralize the acid). But if there's something we can do to get the Zantac to be effective that's fine too. An online friend of mine, Amy Beth, has a baby boy with reflux and she suggested we try giving it to him 30 minutes before he eats rather than immediately before (which could dillute it or cause him to spit it up with formula) so Bob did some online research and found a lot of info that confirms that is what we should be doing. Thank you, Amy Beth! It amazes me that neither of the two doctors that Cooper has seen ever mentioned this as an important step in administering this medicine. We've been doing this for the past 24 hours and we're hopeful it brings an improvement (heck, maybe the fact that he didn't scream all night is evidence enough!?). I'm not sure how long it'll be before we see improvement in other ways (ie gagging/foaming) but we'll see what Dr.Mike says when we call this afternoon.

In addition to the easier and more productive feedings, Cooper's poops have normalized - they aren't runny and they no longer stink beyond belief LOL. So, at least we have the formula part of the equation worked out thankfully.

Cooper and I had a nice walk this morning before it got too hot outside. We're going to try to make that a part of our daily routine since I think both of us could benefit from more fresh air.
