House of gimpies!

Dad arrived last night - yay! Just before the doorbell rang Bob heard the shuttle pull up and he turned to me and said "from this point forward, we'll never be alone in this house again" - referring to the fact that dad will be here and then the baby will come. He meant it in a fun yet terrifying way haha - the look on his face as he absorbed this realization was pretty funny. He WAS smiling though so that's a good sign.

Dad seemed to enjoy his first class ride out from Hartford. I got dad the first class ticket using my frequent flyer miles on American Airlines - since I was able to book him far enough in advance the number of miles it cost was equal to what normally would have been a coach ticket on short notice. However, even with the comfy/bigger seats his back and neck are sore. Unfortunately that would be the case no matter how big/comfy the seats are because of his herniated discs. He brought his traveling medicine cabinet and seems to be no worse for the wear. Bob is another story though...

In spite of twisting his knee last weekend, Bob had been making steady progress and was feeling great - until this morning. He didn't have any accidents or anything this morning but when he attempted to get up from the couch he felt excruciating pain in the OTHER knee (the one that was operated on a year ago) and its incredibly swollen. He's now in bed with a bag of ice on it and has to use his crutches to get around. He's going to have to call Dr.B (orthopedic surgeon) in the morning and get scheduled for an MRI to see what's going on. Dr.B told us last year that he had a great deal of arthritis in that knee and that he'd need a knee replacement within 3-5 years - now we're thinking that it might be sooner. Yikes.

My morning contraction monitoring session was mostly uneventful - just one contraction and that's good news. Now I'm downstairs where I'll stay for a while and am hanging out on the couch talking to my dad and watching TV. He's already talking about cooking a roast for dinner - yum! It's a good thing he's here or Bob and I would most surely starve otherwise - in light of Bob's condition as well as mine.

What a house of gimpies!
